El hyaluronic acid lip filler can improve border definition, hydration, symmetry and volume when needed. The goal is not to change the mouth or pursue a predetermined size, but to make the lips look more proportionate within the face.
When the starting point is thin lips, the assessment helps determine whether volume, definition or both should be addressed, always in relation to the rest of the face.
Natural-looking lip filler does not necessarily mean larger lips. Often the goal is better hydration, definition or symmetry, or restoring structure without changing the expression of the mouth.
A natural result depends on respecting the proportions between the upper lip, lower lip, chin and the rest of the face. A lip can be technically well treated and still look out of balance if it becomes disproportionate to the face.
That is why I prefer a conservative approach and to assess the result progressively rather than aim for an exaggerated change in a single session.
If filler is already present, adding more volume does not always improve the result. When the lip border has lost definition, the mouth looks heavy or the lip begins to project forward unnaturally, adding more filler can make the proportions worse.
In those cases I prefer to stop, assess how much product may remain and decide whether it is better to wait, correct the situation or simply avoid adding more volume.
A good result should complement the face, not make the mouth the dominant feature.
In some cases, hyaluronic acid can blur the lip border and extend into nearby tissue. When this happens above the upper lip, it can create a projection that some patients describe as a “moustache effect”.
Lips can also look heavy because product has accumulated or treatment has been repeated without assessing what is still present. In those situations, adding more filler does not necessarily correct the problem.

Sometimes the sense of imbalance is not only about lip size. The relationship between the lips, chin, profile and lower third of the face can make the mouth appear more or less projected.
In those cases, it may make more sense to assess chin filler o jawline filler before continuing to add volume to the lips.
Facial harmonization does not necessarily mean treating the first area that draws attention; it means understanding which structure is creating the imbalance.
The change is visible immediately, although during the first 24–48 hours there may be swelling. The result is easier to assess once that swelling subsides, usually around 7–10 days.
Approximate duration is 6–12 months, depending on the product used, metabolism and each patient’s characteristics. The need for a touch-up is assessed according to how the result evolves and the desired goal.
